Raglan Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade

Chester supported Apex Water to upgrade Raglan’s wastewater treatment plant, improving performance and increasing capacity for future growth.

Project Overview

Chester supported Apex Water in the delivery of a major upgrade to the Raglan Wastewater Treatment Plant, enhancing treatment performance and improving compliance with wastewater discharge requirements. The project introduced new headworks infrastructure and advanced biological treatment processes, increasing capacity from 3.5MLD to 6MLD to accommodate future growth in Raglan.

Of particular note was the programme scheduling that enabled the bulk earthworks for construction to commence within weeks of project award, while treatment, mechanical and electrical designs progressed in parallel to maintain programme efficiency. During delivery, innovative Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) technology was incorporated to increase future capacity without the need for additional costly civil works.

Completed ahead of key consent milestones, the upgraded facility provides a resilient, future-focused wastewater solution and is among the first plants in New Zealand to integrate MABR technology, setting a new benchmark for sustainable wastewater treatment infrastructure.
